The Espresso Bar Unterberger is located in the middle of Feldkirch’s old town in an Art Nouveau building from 1905. It sees itself as a public space in an urban structure with generous openings towards the guest garden or pedestrian zone. The central position – in the middle of the market square – creates a lively mix of passers-by and guests. A quick coffee while standing or watching and lingering, the boundary between inside and outside is removed. This impression is reinforced by the renewed floor, a natural sanded screed, which, with its traces of use, approximates the exterior. In addition to the elongated bar made of black steel, the gentle curve of the curry-colored ceiling leads into the deep room, which is continued in a wide mirror at the end of the room. The color selection inside harmonizes with the coffee beans that were filled into the space between the panes of the facade glasses: the walls are coated with black blackboard lacquer or the plaster is painted ecru, the built-in furniture made of wenge, the leather-covered benches match the brown of the plastic chairs and the bar stools. As a metaphor for the tablecloth, the tables are white and, together with the amorphous lamp above the bar, convey an elegant atmosphere. Equipped with a video projector and screen, the room can also be used for presentations.
