The new construction of this residential and commercial building is an important gesture in Munich’s up-and-coming neighbourhood Westend. The building, with its bright red façade occupies a prominent urban location on a busy street. The building takes the place of five old buildings that used to stand in its area whose conservation was no longer economical. Seven stores, a common room and 23 apartments of different sizes were created. 17 apartments with loggias and six maisonette apartments with double story spaces and roof terraces. Exterior walls and stairway cores are where the load carrying structure of the house is reduced. The entire interior construction consisting of lightweight walls allows for adjustment according to the resident and coming changes in the housing market. The house is fully wheelchair accessible.
